George Ellis and Emily Ellis (née Emily Rosewarne): Burial Records

...establish when her husband (my gg grandfather) George ELLIS had passed away. I had his date of birth but the date of his passing had always eluded me. Though Ellis is a very common surname, as is the forename George, having the address made it a relatively easy task to now find the correct George ELLIS's burial record: George was buried on March 5, 1928 and Emily on February 25, 1944. In the latter years of their lives, fortunately, George and Emily had remained in the same house at 36 Finlay Street, a large house I remember as a child...

George Ellis 1860-Deceased and Emily Ellis (née Emily ROSEWARNE 1865-1944)

Chatting with my mother about our family history, I recall her saying details of the ELLIS line of our family are few and far between. With this in mind I searched FreeBMD in order to match George ELLIS 1860-Deceased with a spouse. Eventually in Sheffield I found a likely marriage between one George ELLIS 1860-Deceased and one Emily Ellis (née Emily ROSEWARNE 1865-1944). The date of September 1882 met my expectations, and furthermore, the name ROSEWARNE seemed somewhat familiar. A few days later my mother confirmed the name ROSEWARNE and supplied some very valuable additional information regarding George ELLIS 1860-Deceased...

[PiwigoPress id=987 lnktype='albumpicture' opntype='_self' size='me' url='https://familyhistoryjournal.com/gallery'] George Ellis 1860-Deceased This is another of the certificates I recently obtained from Sheffield Register Office. The marriage certificate of George ELLIS 1860-Deceased and Emily ELLIS (née Emily ROSEWARNE 1865-1944) provides a few clues to help further my research: The father of George ELLIS 1860-Deceased is recorded as Mark ELLIS 1831-Deceased. Having carried out little research into George ELLIS 1860-Deceased this should prove very useful. The father of Emily ELLIS (née Emily ROSEWARNE 1865-1944) is confirmed as Thomas ROSEWARNE 1823-1895. Once again I will post a full transcript of this marriage certificate when time...

[PiwigoPress id=987 lnktype='albumpicture' opntype='_self' size='me' url='https://familyhistoryjournal.com/gallery'] George Ellis 1860-Deceased This photograph of my great grandfather George ELLIS 1860-Deceased must rank as one of the oldest in our family collection. Though I have not spent too much time investigating my ELLIS branch, I'm sure if I find time to visit the Sheffield Register Office I should be able to obtain at least his marriage certificate. George ELLIS 1860-Deceased was born at Sheffield, Yorkshire and married Emily ROSEWARNE 1865-1944 during September 1882 at Sheffield. According to my mother George was a very wealthy individual (when compared to others in the family). He...

...early 1960s. I'm not sure of the location though it certainly is not 4 Hawksley Road, Sheffield 6, where at this time Florence lived. The photograph may well have been taken at Aunt Marjorie's house on the Wisewood Estate, Sheffield. Updates: 2010-01-14 I made a little time to carry out some research on Marjorie GREEN (née Marjorie ELLIS 1912-1988) (Aunt Marjorie). Marjorie ELLIS was the youngest daughter of George ELLIS 1860-Deceased and Emily Ellis (née Emily ROSEWARNE 1865-1944), born September 1912 at Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. Marjorie GREEN (née Marjorie ELLIS 1912-1988) married (Jim) James GREEN d.1988 at Sheffield, March 1937....

Left: Emily Bellamy (née Emily Ellis) 1883-1978 Right: Marjorie Green (née Marjorie Ellis) 1912-1988 Over the last few weeks I have exchanged emails with two daughters of my great uncle Thomas Leslie BELLAMY 1922-2011, who of course are my 1st cousins 1 time removed. One of his daughters had seen this website and found this article and photograph of Emily BELLAMY (née Emily ELLIS) 1883-1978. Sadly, I was to learn Thomas Leslie BELLAMY 1922-2011 had passed away in November 2011, in his 90th year. Thomas Leslie BELLAMY 1922-2011 was the youngest child of George Albert BELLAMY 1880-Deceased and Emily BELLAMY...

...show George Albert BELLAMY 1880-Deceased, a bachelor, age 21 and a 'File Cutter' by profession, residing at Quality Road, Sheffield, Yorkshire, married Emily ELLIS 1883-1978, on the 6th of October, 1901. The marriage ceremony was conducted by H A Goodwin after the reading of Banns at the Church of Saint John the Baptist, Owlerton, Sheffield. George's father is recorded as Joseph BELLAMY 1857-Deceased and his father's profession that of 'File Cutter'. The Witnesses were Frank ELLIS and Mabel Louise ELLIS. Notes: Frank ELLIS is most likely the uncle of Emily BELLAMY (née Emily ELLIS 1883-1978), since I have found a...

John William Chinn and Elizabeth Chinn (née Elizabeth Roberts)

During the early part of 2016 I received an email from a descendant of Martha Patricia SAMBROOK (née Martha Patricia ELLIS 1894-Deceased). The lady (whom for privacy I will refer to as MM) is the great grandaughter of Martha Patricia SAMBROOK (née Martha Patricia ELLIS 1894-Deceased) and Arthur SAMBROOK -Deceased. Martha Patricia ELLIS was my great grand aunt, a younger sister of my great grandmother Emily ELLIS 1883-1978, their parents being George ELLIS 1860-Deceased and Emily ROSEWARNE 1865-1944. MM informed me of her grandmother's married name of CHINN. Since CHINN is a relatively easy name to search for, I decided...
