I browsed through the England and Wales Census 1881 entries for Little Gringley, Nottinghamshire. A surprising number of dwellings are recorded, certainly more than my recent visit suggested. I was primarily searching for ALLEN and found the following:
FHJ Ref: 014
Census: England and Wales Census 1881
Place: Little Gringley, Clarborough, Nottinghamshire
Household: Vincent Allen
|SURNAME||FIRST NAME(S)||REL||STATUS||SEX||AGE||OCCUPATION||WHERE BORN||REMARKS|
|Allen||Vincent||Head||Married||Male||49||Agricultural Labourer||Clarborough, Nottinghamshire|
|Allen||Millicent||Wife||Married||Female||50||Washer Woman||Ranskill, Nottinghamshire|

I wonder if it is safe to assume that Vincent ALLEN is a brother to John ALLEN?

The 1841 census has both John and Vincent in the same household of John and Elizabeth Allen at Little Gringley.
