Samuel Dixon and Mary Maria Mablethorpe: Certificates update

Published: October 16, 2007    Last modified: May 22, 2022

Certificates

Despite the recent postal strikes, today, the two certificates I requested from Lincolnshire County Council Register Office arrived; much sooner than I anticipated. My thanks to the Register Office.

The certificates seem to confirm my research, in brief:

Marriage Certificate: Samuel DIXON 1869-1906 and Mary Maria MAPLETHORPE 1878-1964.

Married on the 15th of September 1897, in the Parish Church at Marton, Lincolnshire.
Samuel's father is given as Charles DIXON 1827-Deceased. Mary's father is given as John Robert MAPLETHORPE 1851-Deceased.

Death Certificate: Samuel DIXON 1869-1906

Died at Upton (Upton-cum-Kexby), Lincolnshire, aged 37 years, of Phthisis Pulmonalis (tuberculosis of the lungs).

Certificates

I have requested the following certificates from Lincolnshire Registration Services, Lincoln County Council:

Samuel DIXON 1869-1906 - Death Certificate

I am hoping these certificates will provide a few useful clues in my research of this branch of the family tree.

Clara Ashforth and Henry J Williamson: Marriage

Published: August 4, 2007    Last modified: February 15, 2017

2012-02-14-16-03-06-01

I have found a marriage record for Clara ASHFORTH 1895-1932 and Henry James WILLIAMSON 1894-1965. The marriage took place at Sheffield, Yorkshire, England in the June quarter of 1919.

I have also found a likely date of birth for a Henry James WILLIAMSON 1894-1965 in the June quarter of 1892.

I now need to obtain the certificate for this marriage, since this may hold some clues to whether or not Henry James WILLIAMSON 1894-1965 was born in England or New Zealand. I have added this to my task list.

George Flowers and Harriet Law: Marriage Certificate

Published: April 22, 2007    Last modified: February 4, 2017

Certificates

This is the last of 3 certificates I obtained recently from Sheffield Register Office.

The marriage certificate for George FLOWERS 1839-1891 and Harriet FLOWERS (née Harriet LAW 1836-1903) has disproved some of my previous research:

I recorded the father of George FLOWERS 1839-1891 as being George FLOWERS, but the marriage certificate records James FLOWERS.

I recorded the father of Harriet FLOWERS (née Harriet LAW 1836-1903) as being Joseph LAW born abt. 1817 and married to Ann LAW (née Ann MOORE) born about 1821, but the marriage certificate records Frederick LAW 1811-Deceased.

Dates of birth for George and Harriet are both given as 'FULL'. Residence at time of marriage appears to be given as 'Jericho' though I may be mistaken. Not very helpful.

Clearly I have to undertake additional research.

Again I will post a full transcript of this marriage certificate as and when time allows.

George Ellis 1860-Deceased

This is another of the certificates I recently obtained from Sheffield Register Office.

The marriage certificate of George ELLIS 1860-Deceased and Emily ELLIS (née Emily ROSEWARNE 1865-1944) provides a few clues to help further my research:
The father of George ELLIS 1860-Deceased is recorded as Mark ELLIS 1831-Deceased. Having carried out little research into George ELLIS 1860-Deceased this should prove very useful.

The father of Emily ELLIS (née Emily ROSEWARNE 1865-1944) is confirmed as Thomas ROSEWARNE 1823-1895.

Once again I will post a full transcript of this marriage certificate when time allows.

So now I can confirm Joseph BELLAMY 1857-Deceased's father as one William BELLAMY 1824-Deceased and Mary Ann BELLAMY (née Mary Ann TURNER 1861-Deceased)'s father as one Edwin TURNER 1827-Deceased. It also provides me with 2 hitherto unknown addresses.

Of further interest are the two witness names of George FROST and Mary Ann WHITHAM. Are they family or friends?

Sheffield Register Office: Yet again

Published: December 30, 2005    Last modified: May 22, 2022

Certificates

I happened to be in Sheffield today so I took the opportunity to call at the register office to check if the certificates I had requested were ready for collection.

The staff had retrieved the birth certificate of Joseph BELLAMY 1857-Deceased and the marriage certificate of Joseph BELLAMY 1857-Deceased and Mary Ann TURNER 1861-Deceased, but had not been able to locate a birth certificate for Mary Ann TURNER 1861-Deceased. The Deputy Registrar very kindly showed the number of searches his staff had carried out without yielding a useful result. They had obviously spent some considerable time on these searches for which I am very grateful and once again I express my appreciation of the registry office staff.

Having analysed the data from these certificates I have corroborated most of the findings from my original research. I have also established the maiden name of William BELLAMY 1824-Deceased's wife Emma: Emma BRADSHAW 1830-Deceased. The marriage certificate confirms Edwin TURNER 1827-Deceased to be the father of Mary Ann.

Sheffield Register Office: Again

Certificates

Sheffield Register Office confirmed they have found a marriage certificate for Joseph BELLAMY 1857-Deceased and Mary Ann TURNER 1861-Deceased, and a birth certificate for Joseph BELLAMY 1857-Deceased. They are carrying out a broader search for a birth certificate for Mary Ann TURNER 1861-Deceased.

I must also mention the staff at the register office, they have been very polite and helpful, advising me it would be better to wait for the results of the search for Mary Ann TURNER 1861-Deceased's birth certificate before collecting the other two.

So it looks as though it will be early in the new year before I can collect.
