I browsed through the England and Wales Census 1881 entries for Little Gringley, Nottinghamshire. A surprising number of dwellings are recorded, certainly more than my recent visit suggested. I was primarily searching for ALLEN and found the following:
FHJ Ref: 014
Census: England and Wales Census 1881
Place: Little Gringley, Clarborough, Nottinghamshire
Household: Vincent Allen
SURNAME | FIRST NAME(S) | REL | STATUS | SEX | AGE | OCCUPATION | WHERE BORN | REMARKS |

Allen | Vincent | Head | Married | Male | 49 | Agricultural Labourer | Clarborough, Nottinghamshire | |
Allen | Millicent | Wife | Married | Female | 50 | Washer Woman | Ranskill, Nottinghamshire |

I wonder if it is safe to assume that Vincent ALLEN is a brother to John ALLEN?
