Frederick Thomas Cutts abt. 1885-Deceased and Hannah Allen abt. 1856-Deceased

Published: December 13, 2005    Last modified: May 22, 2022

Earlier this year I wrote about coming upon Hannah CUTTS (née Hannah ALLEN abt. 1856-Deceased) and Frederick CUTTS abt.1885-Deceased living at Treeton, Rotherham, Yorkshire. To read this article please click here. My great grandparents Daniel JACKLIN 1862-1953 and Ziller JACKLIN (née Ziller ALLEN 1858-1949) lived close by at Aston-cum-Aughton. I presume all had relocated to this area to take up employment with local coal mining companies. A few searches of the England and Wales Census 1901 show the family still living in this mining community. My transcription from the Census is as follows: FHJ Ref: 024 Census: England and Wales...

Daniel Jacklin 1862-1953

...Lincolnshire Note: Gringley, Lincolnshire ought to be Little Gringley, Nottinghamshire To view this table full width please click here. I know Daniel JACKLIN 1862-1953 and Ziller JACKLIN (née Ziller ALLEN 1858-1949) lived at Aston-cum-Aughton before moving to the Darnall area of Sheffield, but now I have the actual address. Even more interesting is the record of Elizabeth ALLEN 1861-Deceased 9 (niece), I guess when I can find the time it will be of value to establish Elizabeth's parents. This entry records both Ziller and Elizabeth having been born at Gringley, Lincolnshire; other records show Ziller having being born at Little...

John Butroid and Martha Seaton

Using the information provided by the descendant of Jesse BUTROID 1862-1943 and Sarah BUTROID (née Sarah ALLEN 1862-1943) I have added John BUTROID 1840-1921 and Martha BUTROID (née Martha SEATON 1843-1886), the parents of Jesse BUTROID 1862-1943 to my GEDCOM. Jesse BUTROID 1862-1943 married Sarah BUTROID (née Sarah ALLEN 1862-1943), the sister of my great grandmother Ziller JACKLIN (née Ziller ALLEN 1858-1949)....

Elizabeth Allen

I am aware of Ziller (Zillah) ALLEN living in the household of George SMITHSON at East Drayton, Nottinghamshire but when I carried out a search for ALLEN on the England and Wales Census 1881 I also found an entry for an Elizabeth ALLEN in this household. FHJ Ref: 6 Census: England and Wales Census 1881 Place: East Drayton, Nottinghamshire, England Household: John Scott Surname First name(s) Rel Status Sex Age Where Born Occupation Remarks Scott John Head U Male 74 E Drayton, Nottingham, England Retired Farmer Salmon Jane Sister M Female 66 E Drayton, Nottingham, England Housekeeper Scott John (Junior)...

Sarah Allen

While researching my previous 2 posts re: Zillah ALLEN, I came across this record (which as it turns out, I already have) from the England and Wales Census 1891. It records Daniel JACKLIN 1862-1953 and Ziller JACKLIN (née ALLEN) 1858-1949 living at Aston-cum-Aughton so I decided to browse through some of the other households in the same area with a hunch that other members of the family may have relocated to the same area in order to find work in the coal mines. I eventually found this entry: FHJ Ref: 013 Census: England and Wales Census 1891 Place: Household: Jesse...

Frederick Cutts and Hannah Cutts (neé Hannah Allen)

...click here. Little Gringley being the birthplace of Hannah CUTTS (neé Hannah ALLEN) and with Little Gringley being a sparsely populated hamlet, this could well be a clue worth saving for research into the ALLEN family. The village of Treeton is only a few miles from Aston-cum-Aughton and Swallownest where Daniel JACKLIN and Ziller JACKLIN (née ALLEN) lived after they were married. The Treetonweb site is well worth browsing as it contains many interesting historical facts about the coal mining area Daniel and Ziller relocated to, presumably for Daniel to find work in the local coal mines. Wilfred Jacklin 1926-1926: Died age 6 hours

Published: February 11, 2017    Last modified: October 14, 2017

My great grandparents Daniel JACKLIN 1862-1953 and Ziller JACKLIN (née Ziller ALLEN 1858-1949) were both buried at the Orgreave Lane section of Handsworth Cemetery, Sheffield, but as I noted in this article, despite having the plot number I have failed to find their grave. It crossed my mind that I may have been mistaken about Orgreave Lane and they were actually buried in the graveyard of the Church of Saint Mary, Handsworth, Sheffield. While searching burial records for Daniel and Ziller JACKLIN I came across a burial record for Wilfred JACKLIN 1926-1926 the second child of my grandparents Wilfred JACKLIN...

Zillah Fenton: Search

Published: October 29, 2005    Last modified: May 22, 2022

Late last night while mulling over how to proceed with my research into John ALLEN 1831-Deceased and Fanny LITTLEWOOD 1832-1915 I noticed Joseph LITTLEWOOD 1811-Deceased and Zillah FENTON 1811-Deceased in my family tree but I had marked it 'tentative'. I have always had a certain amount of success searching on either 'Little Gringley' or the various forms of the forename 'Ziller' my great grandmother Ziller ALLEN 1858-1949 used. I searched for 'Zillah Fenton' and surprisingly it returned just this one result from NOTTSGEN-L Archives. Though this post is from a 2001 archive I emailed the contact address and was pleasantly...

William Butroid and Rebecca Butroid (née Rebecca Bowering): Church of All Saints, Misterton, Nottinghamshire

Published: August 29, 2007    Last modified: January 17, 2017

...was that of one William BUTROID and his wife Rebecca BUTROID (née Rebecca BOWERING). My great grandmother Ziller JACKLIN (née Ziller ALLEN 1858-1949) had a sister Sarah BUTROID (née Sarah ALLEN 1862-1943) who married Jesse BUTROID 1862-1943. Jesse was born at West Butterwick and Jesse's father John BUTROID 1840-1921, was born at East Stockwith, just across the River Trent from West Stockwith and Misterton. At this moment in time I am not sure where William and Rebecca BUTROID fit into the family tree, but as far as I am aware this is the only connection the JACKLIN line has with...

Little Gringley, Nottinghamshire

Little Gringley, Retford, Nottinghamshire Leaving East Drayton we moved on to the nearby hamlet of Little Gringley, approximately 4 miles east of Retford, Nottinghamshire. Little Gringley is the birth place of my great grandmother Ziller JACKLIN (née Ziller ALLEN) 1858-1949. Little Gringley consists of just a few cottages and farms and I doubt it has changed a great deal in over 150 years. There isn't a church in Little Gringley so we were left guessing where the locals would be buried since Little Gringley seemed to be equidistant as the crow flies between Grove and Clarborough. Updates: 2007-08-06 I finally...
