I feel sure this must be Ziller JACKLIN (née Ziller ALLEN 1858-1949). My father recalls he knew his grandmother as Ziller but just to add to the confusion, her marriage certificate records the name Zellaby. Ziller Jacklin (née Ziller Allen 1858-1949) This photograph of Ziller JACKLIN (née Ziller ALLEN 1858-1949), my great grandmother, has for quite some time, eluded me . When a couple of years ago mother was helping identify the myriad of friends and relatives that live in the box of photographs marked 'waiting to be digitised', this one of Ziller JACKLIN (née Ziller ALLEN 1858-1949) stuck in my memory. It is the only known photograph of Ziller, unless there are more hiding away in other boxes, in other attics, at other relatives' abodes. Today I decided to have another go at digitising...

Ziller Jacklin (née Ziller Allen 1859-1949): Census: East Drayton

Searching the England and Wales Census 1881 I discovered Ziller JACKLIN (née Ziller ALLEN) 1858-1949, my paternal great grandmother, appears to have had an older sister Jane ALLEN 1853-, both were born at Little Gringley, Nottinghamshire. I surmise Jane ALLEN 1853- married George SMITHSON 1830- of East Drayton, East Retford, Nottinghamshire since the 1881 British Census records Ziller ALLEN 1858-1949 living (as sister-in-law) at East Drayton in the household of George SMITHSON 1830-: FHJ Ref: 002 Census: England and Wales Census 1881 Place: 4 North Street, East Drayton, Nottingham, England Household: George Smithson SURNAMEFIRST NAME(S)RELSTATUSSEXAGEOCCUPATIONWHERE BORNREMARKS Smithson George Head M...

Ziller Jacklin (née Ziller Allen 1858-1949) Mother of Eliza Allen 1882-Deceased"][/caption] After several years and a great deal of research, I may have solved my 'Elizabeth Allen' conundrum. Just to recap, Elizabeth ALLEN 1882-Deceased appears in the England and Wales Census 1891 as a niece to Daniel JACKLIN 1862-1953 and Zillah JACKLIN (née Ziller ALLEN 1858-1949). I have always been intrigued by this niece but even with much research I had never been able to establish her place in the family tree: FHJ Ref: 007 Census: England and Wales Census 1891 Place: Bradley Yard, Aston With Aughton, Rotherham, Yorkshire Household:...

This was wonderful news and has solved a few of the mysteries surrounding this branch of the family. Not suprisingly this has lead to some confusion. Hopefully, now I know which line to research, I can make some progress with my great great grandfather John ALLEN 1831-Deceased. This news has enabled me to add additional information to my GEDCOM regarding David ALLEN 1867-1902, one of Ziller JACKLIN (née Ziller ALLEN 1858-1949)'s brothers....

We were chatting about Daniel JACKLIN 1862-1953 and Ziller JACKLIN (née Ziller ALLEN 1858-1949) and if they ever had visits from other members of the family (Daniel and Ziller moved from Bradley Yard, Swallownest, Yorkshire and lived the rest of their lives at Langley Street, Darnall, Sheffield, Yorkshire). My mother happened to mention that they brought up a young girl known by...
